Professor Geoffrey Voelker specializes in computer systems, with research spanning operating systems, distributed systems, networking, and mobile and wireless computing. His work is highly experimental and data-driven, integrating system and network measurement with design, implementation, and evaluation. His recent projects focus on areas such as wireless networks, machine virtualization, cloud storage, and cybercrime.
Recognized for his significant contributions to empirical measurement and analysis in systems, networking, and security, Professor Voelker was named a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) in 2017.
At UC San Diego, he teaches courses in systems and networking, including CSE 125, “Software System Design and Implementation.” This annual course challenges students to work in teams, designing and developing distributed, real-time, 3D multiplayer games.
